How can I find out if I have HIV?
A HIV infection is detected by a simple blood and/or saliva test.
If you want to get tested, you should wait at least 3 months after the situation of possible exposure, during what´s called the ¨window period¨. Or, you can get tested and repeat testing in 3 months.
It´s recommended that you get tested regularly (about every 6 months, approximately); the earlier the HIV virus is detected, the earlier you can begin treatment.
Where can I get tested for HIV?
To get tested you can either go to the your public health care center, or to a center specializing in Sexually Transmitted Diseases. There are centers in various Autonomous Communities:
