There are three ways to transmit HIV:
- Sexually: through the exhange of semen and vaginal fluids. This is why it is important to use condoms in all your sexual encounters
- Blood: Through open wounds, bleeding gums, blood left on things like razors, or a tube used to snort cocaine, blood from wounds in the anus after anal penetration, etc.
- Breastmilk: A seropositive mother can transmit aids to her infant through breastmilk fed to the baby
HIV can be transmitted sexually by an HIV positive person when blood, semen, or vaginal fluid contact with open wounds or mucous membranes like the mouth, eyes, or rectum.
